Confirm national certification, current practice area, patient population, and whether the clinician can provide direct oversight during the proposed dates. Compare those details with Herzing's preceptor requirements and the requirements for the specific course.

Billings offers the state's largest concentration of health care organizations and can support primary care, behavioral health, specialty, and acute-care searches. Missoula, Great Falls, Bozeman, Helena, Butte, and Kalispell are other practical hubs. Each has a different mix of hospital-owned groups, independent clinics, community health organizations, and specialty practices.

Students outside those centers may need a corridor strategy. Havre, Lewistown, Glendive, and Miles City can be important regional anchors, while smaller communities may depend on rural clinics or outreach services. Decide in advance how far you can drive, whether seasonal road conditions affect attendance, and whether temporary lodging is realistic for a concentrated schedule.

Do not send a generic request to every clinic. Give the practice a concise summary of the track, course, required population, date range, weekly availability, and documents needed from the clinician. Large organizations may have a central student coordinator. A smaller rural practice may decide locally but need extra time to assess staffing and patient volume.

Herzing encourages students to identify their own clinical site and preceptor. A Clinical Placement Advisor and master's-prepared Clinical Coordinator support the process, and an approved-site fallback list may be available when the student's own outreach has not produced an acceptable option. Begin with professional contacts, prior employers, local clinicians, and practices that already know your work.

When a Montana clinician is interested, request the preceptor's CV and signed preceptor agreement, then follow the current application instructions. Plan by course rather than treating the full program total as one block. Ask how many eligible encounters are typical on each clinic day, whether the preceptor has planned leave, and whether the required population is consistently available. A rural site may provide unusually broad experience but still need a backup plan for weather, census changes, or provider coverage.

Telehealth may be included as a supervised component when Montana requirements, the program, course, site, patient population, and activities permit it.
