Team consultation remains normal, especially in complex systems, but the current full practice category reflects the state's broad NP authority. A student's role remains supervised and limited to the approved course and site.

Confirm the proposed preceptor's certification, real patient population, work responsibilities, schedule, and supervision method. Students should also verify current Herzing program eligibility in New York before investing in facility applications or travel plans.

The New York State Education Department Office of the Professions licenses registered professional nurses and certifies nurse practitioners. Search the clinician using the exact legal name and review the current state record.

Check the RN license and NP certification in the relevant specialty, then confirm national certification, current employment, patient ages, and role at the proposed site. Compare those facts with Herzing's preceptor requirements. A valid New York credential does not establish that an office has the population or availability required by a particular course.

New York City offers the state's largest clinical market across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island. Health systems often control student decisions through formal education offices and affiliation processes. Long Island, White Plains, Yonkers, Poughkeepsie, and Middletown can extend a downstate search, but transit and drive time should be tested against the actual clinical shift.

Albany and the Capital Region provide a large upstate hub. Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo each have substantial hospital networks, outpatient practices, psychiatric services, and specialty groups. Binghamton, Utica, Watertown, and Plattsburgh can support regional searches, though fewer matching clinicians may require earlier contact and a larger travel radius.

Send a course-specific inquiry. Include the track, setting, patient population, date range, weekly availability, and paperwork needed from the preceptor. Ask whether the organization accepts outside student requests and which office manages them. A clinician's interest may be only the first step in a New York system's approval chain.

Herzing encourages the student to identify a clinical site and preceptor. The Clinical Placement Advisor and master's-prepared Clinical Coordinator support the process, and an approved-site fallback list may provide another route. Start with professional relationships and employer contacts, then expand by region and exact course requirements.

When a New York clinician agrees to be proposed, obtain the preceptor's CV and signed preceptor agreement and follow the current application instructions. The facility may add health documentation, background review, training, orientation, and an affiliation process. Large systems may need significant lead time even after the clinician has agreed.

Herzing's conditional APRN Clinical Placement Pledge applies when the student completes required steps, meets deadlines, starts the formal placement process at least two months before the clinical application deadline, and pursues a proposed site and preceptor that meet approval requirements. Telehealth may be a supervised component where New York requirements and the program, course, site, patient population, supervision, and activities permit it.
